Dystopian funk patterns of the highest calibre...
Mind bending aqua-funk from a true genius
Alleviated electronic advancements in the tradition of Sun Ra or Miles. Awesome.
Paying respect to native American heritage with a sublime dancefloor movement.
Transcending time, style and spirit. An undisputed anthem.
Groovy-but-spooky early Mills from the seminal 'Waveform EP'
Inimitable rhythms and frequencies crafted for unarmed combat.

Detroit funk rewritten with an urgent agenda.
A timeless piece of Techno history from the Suburban Knight - Africanised Hi-tech.
Kraftwerk displaced to an empty factory in downtown Detroit.
A later classic of the catalogue. Epic strings and machine funked rhythms.
The classic 313 template - strings, 303, 909 and soul.
Interstellar drone music for darkest souls.
One of the finest pieces of emotive electronic music ever written.

“ya fucking dancer!”
UR are, and always will be, the corner stone of what hard Detriot Techno can and should be. I haven't heard a lot of these before now but I'm utterly, utterly blown away by their body of work from their inception until the present day. Black Dog did a set for RA featuring just UR tracks a while back and that, like these 14tracks, just made my week. Viva la resistance!

God this shit is SUCH a breath of fresh air! My ears are doing backflips over this one. Electronic music made by people who sound like they actually know what music is. Big ups Boomkat - nice job!

... in existence IMHO
Missing some core seminal tracks in the 14 selected, but not a bad 14 to choose from.
Track down this interview Mike did for a Detroit radio station ... its one of only a handful he has ever done ... the perfect start into the history of UR

i think the selection picks the best tracks from what is available in the boomkat catalogue. admittedly there's loads of tracks missing... but if this has inspired you, make sure to hunt out more Drexciya and the Red Planet releases. maybe even buy some of their vinyl!!! ;)
@ Falcao, yeah that Mark Flash mix is great. it shows they're listening to new or different stuff that you may not necessarily expect them to.

“Techno with real depth”
it's pretty rare, but UR have it in spades. Some favourites in here including 'Codebreaker', and of course DJ Rolando's 'The Jaguar'. I could easily pick 14 tracks of just Drexciya, and the Martian's 'Red Planet' series so can imagine just how difficult it would be to limit across the UR camp as a whole. Would have liked to have seen some of Frankie Fultz brilliant artwork too.

“More UR goodies...”
For those grooving this great 14 tracks set, you might also want to check out (in addition) DJ Rolando's Aztec Mystic Mix - a nice full length compilation featuring contributions from across the UR stable - UR (of course), Aztec Mystic, The Martian, Drexciya, Suburban Knight etc. A real shiner.
