Elevated harmonics and swoop-bumpin subs from Nosaj Thing, aka Jason Chung.
Demented Linn workout sounding like Prince's 'Lady Cab Driver' on steroids. Sick!
Woofer-pulverising business from the inimitable Flying Lotus...
Madlib on a brilliantly minimal tip, featuring Murs.
Skittering percussion workout with a cosmic vibe indebted to Sun Ra.
Low slung choppy hiphop with nods to Jill Scott and Erykah.
New school synthfunk obliteration referencing the UK's Purple scene...

70 seconds of swoonsome bliss from Otis Jackson Jr.
'Recorded and sincerely funked without any loops or samples'. Word!
Another frayed masterclass, lifted off Flylo's debut album: 1983.
Stretched synths and slick edits, Dilla style.
Lifted of the criminally overlooked "Dunhill Drone Committee" album from inventive turntablist Mike Boo.
Beautiful soundscapes built from lo-fi recordings, warped samples and shortwave transmissions...
Dreamy narrative experiments with a heavy, brilliantly tweaked low-end thud.

“Adventure Time and Boo - Nice!”
Hey guys
As soon as I saw you including Adventure Time I said to myself "they've done it again". I thought I was the only one who knew about these guys. Their whole set is brilliant, but just a wee correction: is that music really "squashed funk"? I hear more a quirky, fun-loving, yet adventurous world-and-jazz plunderphonics kind of thing going on, not much funk, whether squashed or not. And then there's the Mike Boo: another first rate selection. The cover art shows smoke, and that's what the music conveys - a deep, languid, sultry smoke. Anyways, keep up the great work.

“"The Funk"”
I think it's meant more as in, "the funk", rather than Funk Music, if u see what i mean. Those Dam Funk tracks are amazing!

“Not my cup of tea”
it seems to me that the songs in this collection fall into one of three categories:
1. Head nodding, post-Prince jams of quality.
2. Tracks with sub-par lyrical content.
3. Self indulgent experiments into poor production techniques.
I respect 14 Tracks for bring out this collection, but the music in the genre itself doesn't deserve the 14 Track treatment.
No offence.

“By strange coincidence...”
...if you're liking these tunes then you might like to check out a recent project on my website. A collaboration with photographer Shaun Bloodworth — we just got back from LA where we photographed a load of the above producers (Dam Funk, FlyLo, Ras G, Samiyam etc.) — in our 'L.A. Dope' project sections.
Cheers!
