“14 tracks re-wiring UK Garage”

With dubstep increasingly split between bombastic rave/wobble workouts and far more feminine (and, for our money, interesting) variants, the line is getting harder to define between one sub-classification and another. Further up the chain, UK Garage itself incorporates a number of different bass cultures, flowing in and out of Jungle, hip hop and R&B and generating mongrel sounds from Grime to Dubstep, Funky and beyond. All of this is to say that the bass scene always has and continues to evolve at a rate that's producing new sounds and splinters faster than anyone can even name them, despite the perceived malaise. So, forgive us if the title doesn't quite nail the content, but this week's selection, a follow-up of sorts to our 2-step playlist from earlier on in the year, takes in UKG machinations reconfigured and rebuilt by producers emerging out of different urban disciplines, playing to a crowd too caught up in these new hybrid sounds to work out exactly what to call them...

What do you think of this selection?
Any suggestions?

love those reissues, 1999 is the beez, bigtime.

“rave/wobble”

yeah, so much of that masculine stuff you talk about is not only terribly produced but also just linked to the lowest common denominator. loud, bad, nauseating rave wobble - hate it. This on the other hand..... slinky shuffling movements, biggups.

“yes, love it”

and agree with the above, totally sick of the whole caspa/rusko end of things, the whole boys club bollocks is just tiresome.

blimey, not again! More over opinonated gouches talking down about wobbley tunes. To be honest i've never been a fan of them, but im even less of a fan of people who think they are above stuff like caspa/rusko. Not all produceres are aiming for the same thing. Some are just having some fun. And Boomkat can you please stop trying brainwash clueless middle class kids. Really like this selection thoughhhh........ermm
