Robert Henke's biography is as impressive as they come in electronic music. The musician has spent time as a mastering engineer at Berlin's Dubplates & Mastering, co-founded software company Ableton (responsible for probably the most influential piece of music software this century: Ableton Live), lectured in computer aided composition and sound design at Universitat der Kunste in Berlin and, most importantly, enjoyed an illustrious career recording under his own name and, more famously, as Monolake. The project actually began as a collaboration with fellow Ableton co-founder Gerhard Behles, and over the years has also featured sporadic rhythmic contributions from fellow Berlin cohort Torsten Proefrock, aka T++, but the sound has always been shaped by Henke's supreme attention to detail and unique musical vision. For his eponymous material Henke fuses elements of intricate sound design and conceptual composition (having been involved with several high profile installation pieces, including the Atlantic Waves performance at London's Tate Modern back in 2006), elements that often provide the foundations for the technofied, metallic sound structures that have made Monolake releases so instantaneously recognisable over the last 15 years.
