“14 tracks experimenting with bowed strings”

Classical and experimental musicians of all persuasions have a long tradition of making use of bows on both conventional and unusual string instruments (as well as a whole variety of non-stringed ones), the delicate vibrations and friction created between the strings and the hairs on the bow allow for intriguing physical manipulation with often unexpected results. In recent years bowed strings have become commonplace in modern composition, emitting a sound lending itself not only to the kind of screeching crescendos of classic horror film scores but also to installation pieces, drones, Ragas, Bluegrass and all kinds of contemporary sub-genres obsessed with the intense, almost harrowing qualities of the sound. For this week's selection we bring you over two hours of dense experiments with bowed strings, including work by hugely impressive contemporary composer Richard Skelton, pan-generic experimenters Pelt, and the awe-inspiring multi instrumental bowed playing of the acclaimed Spiral Joy Band.

I like string musical instrument very much. What do you mean by bowed string . Hereafter I will make a collection of it. According to me the vibration will be sound good only in string instruments.

I just had this link forwarded to me. Seems like a great idea and the music sounds good too. I was going to subscribe to the Atom feed but it doesn't seem to be working. Thought I'd better let you know.
