“14 tracks: from Larry Levan to The Warehouse.. ”

This week we go on a potted journey through club music, with particular focus on the slow mutation of Disco and Soul into the hugely influential and endlessly productive sound eventually just known as 'House'. Larry Levan's extended Club mixes at New York's Paradise Garage and long, often bass-heavy breakdowns already contained the spirit of House, defined by the prominent kick drum which would eventually come to typify every strand of four-to-the-floor music to this day. From New York the focus edged over to Chicago's Warehouse parties and the pioneering work of Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Jamie Principle, Larry Heard and the Hot Mix 5 who, armed with drum machines and turntables, blended elements of Italo, Hip Hop and electro to create the first readily recognisable House trax before spiritual brethren and rivals like Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson over in Detroit seeded Techno mutations through to the later generation of producers like Carl Craig and Dan Bell who did much to push the boundaries of electronic music even further. It's a pretty wild journey getting from A to B, with several important stops along the way, and though we've only really looked at the very tip of the iceberg the most important thing is that each and every one of these tracks is a stone cold KILLER! Join the dots and play super loud for maximum impact...

“awesome”

Great stuff - listened to approx 20 seconds of the preview and ordered it. I really like these historical selections - partly because it's a great insight into the lineage of electronic music and partly because I rarely own any of the tracks.

“gratitude for this beautiful birth of house”

lovin it! Just saw the documentary "Maestro" and it totally brought me back to the roots of this beautiful thing called house music~~~~~~living in the netherlands, in the abundance of a dance music scene alive and kicking, the roots are not very well known and appreciated...tolerance, togetherness, unity and expression...this music schools my ass and then makes it shake and buzz and be VERY happy to be alive* thanks for this mix...but where is larry heard?!?!??! i miss his presence here...but no matter, you guys are doing a damn good job! long live this unifying music!!!!
