“14 tracks Bubble Up : Wackies”

New York's Wackies label issued some of the most influential and bass-heavy Reggae, Dub and Dancehall of the 70's and 80's. The label was founded by Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes, a Jamaican producer who moved to The Bronx in the 1970's and whose "Wackie's House Of Music" soon expanded from influential record shop to one of the best equipped studios in the city. Artists as notable as Sugar Minott, Junior Delahaye, Horace Andy and Wayne Jarret all recorded for Bullwackie, and before long the label's low-end emphasis would have an impact on the city's fledgling hip hop scene. The Wackies sound system is even said to have done much to introduce the concept of the party MC which would soon dominate b-boy culture. After many years in the collectors wilderness, Basic Channel started a long and much needed Wackies reissue series which has seen some of the most important bass music of the 20th century finally resurface, beautifully remastered and reproduced by Berlin's finest. This 14 track selection dips into the Bullwackies genius with some of the more unusual and heavy tracks from the archive bubbling up the dance...

“Love Joys?”

Surprised not to see any from the ultimate Wackies classic album 'Reggae Vibes' by The Love Joys but a great selection from a great label nonetheless.
