“Sine waves”
I love Boomkat and 14 tracks too, however there is something I have a real problem with, and having asked quite a few others who use your site have found a high level of agreement!
Why do you insert sine waves every 30 seconds that are at least 5db higher than the track being listened to? It gives the user a really nasty experience when auditioning tracks on a decent system. Surely you're not worried about people sitting with a recorder taping this stuff?

“RE : Jon Seaton”
Hi John, The beep is there every 30 seconds because the labels only allow us to play 30 seconds of un-interrupted music. We had to decide whether to restrict the preview clips to just 30 seconds, or have longer previews with the interruption every 30 seconds. We figured the longer clips with interruptions would be preferable. As for the volume - we're constantly reviewing the level, but unfortunately we have to have them at a volume that's audible regardless of the kind of music that's playing otherwise the label's complain that they're inaudible. Hope that answers your question - and cheers for the comment.

“FLAC”
Any plans to introduce FLAC format to 14tracks? I'd love to be downloading all of these but as yet can't bring myself to do it at 320k...

I would ditto the desire for 14 tracks to offer an FLAC package. thanks.

“good collection”
nothing but complaints, huh ? : )
I'm going for the whole set this time. I agree that the longer clips with interruption is better than a shorter clip only - I consider it an acceptable wa to preview the music. better than the friggin' iTunes store : )

“more like this!”
great idea for a collection and really widens the brief of what 14 tracks can be

There are some great tracks here, but I would question the use of 'gamelan' to describe some of them.

i have the 23 skidoo on vinyl. i remember buying it back in '84. i always look forward to the 14 in my inbox, but i don't get the boomkat latest releases. humm. i have yet to buy, though. i'm still a bit of a luddite and i dislike downloading music. ain't nothin' like the real thing. the physical object. a fetish, a totem. liner notes!

Yo Boomkat
You guys are so awesome I can't stop gushing. Back before Xmas I posted a comment on one of the other sets suggesting a gamelan collection and here it is. Really way to cool! This is totally what I was hoping for. I know Jon Hassell probably doesn't fit the 'independent label' category, but one of the tracks from his 1983 collection Aka Darbari Java would've made this just psych-good. But no complaints -this is awesome and perfect!
Thanks again guys - you are the only online music resource for me.
Cheers

“Missed tune”
Great selection but you missed a killer that needs to be heard. Canned by Distance on Rinse FM, "Bali Dub" by Komodo is the definition of Urban Gamelan. How do I get it to you? The album is available in Canada and on a not to be mentioned site. You need this!
Big up!!!

“Another idea...”
Hi again guys. Here's another idea - The Ocean. Selections inspired by any and all things nautical. Thinking themes here not genres (program music?), but that would be OK, right? I can see it now - Xela's "Dead Sea", Lawrence English "Kiri No Oto", Altar Ego/Philip Jeck "Sinking of the Titanic", Fennesz "Black Sea", Fourcolor "Water Mirror". The list goes on...
Cheers

Although I'd played in a Gamelan ensemble, I'd never thought to look for modern interpretations of it. This spotlight is making my head explode...
