“14 tracks documenting the field”

Field recordings often have a functional remit - capturing indigenous African tribes, studying the sounds of air at different altitudes, deciphering bird song, or just documenting everyday life for posterity. But these recordings often also carry with them a sort of effortless emotional resonance that can't quite be contained, conjuring up impossibly vivid mental images of times, places, environments and things you may never have seen, or have forgotten but long to recapture in some way. They can also act as a vivid opening into another world, placing you there, in the midst of life, exactly as it happened, moment by moment. This selection here brings together a broad range of field recordings, from the jaw-dropping environmental documentation of Chris Watson to the more figurative, musical arrangements of Tape and Mark Templeton - all sharing source material beyond the confines and controlled environments of the recording studio...
