This time on 14tracks:

“14 tracks: Haptic Perception”

This week we highlight 14 tracks for their stimulating, synaesthetic qualities; their enhanced capacity to be perceived as matter we can somehow "touch" with the ear or hear through our skin like some kind of cryptic sonic braille. Of course, your experience depends on whether you're listening with headphones or on speakers, but either way, we encourage you to focus on the uneven grain and shape of these sounds, their imperfections and juxtapositions, and their psychedelic potential to synthesize impossibly fragile or illusory sonic ecologies, hopefully as the artists would have intended. There's an intangible magic to the fractured Noise Art of Jeff Keen, Wanda Group's spiky texturhythms or Joe Colley and Jason Lescalleet's trans-dimensional layering, and the subtle sensation of hands on dusty buttons and faders gives the likes of Aaron Dilloway, Charlatan or Dresvn's analogue experiments a deft oddness that just can't be recreated on computers. The recording techniques of Steve Roden, Russell Haswell or Giuseppe Ielasi and Nicola Ratti's Bellows is integral to their sound's representation, and in the chimeric space between the "real" (concrète/field recordings) and the "unreal" or "virtual" (computer music) the sounds of CoH and Love Cult play out coldly affective tones and atmospheres.
