This time on 14tracks:

“Smash your Tom Tom, listen to Sun City Girls”

Trying to sum up Sun City Girls' oeuvre is nigh on impossible, so we won't bother. Instead, we've sifted out a handful of gems from their kaleidoscopic catalogue and shaken them up with compatible goodness from Sublime Frequencies - the label run by one half of the now defunct group's sibling duo, Alan Bishop - and like-minded sonic travellers, Mike Cooper, Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides, and Gypsy Treasures. We thought it might be best (perhaps easier) to attempt to contextualise their sound before you dive in, 'cause it's a wild and lawless place in there, we tell ya! The SCG bits we have chosen all come from their own Abduction Records imprint, a sprawling, syncretic cache of worldly sounds crossing paths between the avant-garde and outernational circles with a bozz-eyed stagger and knowing intuition. But if there's one thread that ties it all together, it's a sort of raw, psychedelic desert blues expression, one which embraces dissonance and primal rhythm, merging scales and clattering timbres with a rooted instinct. If you're new to any of this material, we hope it leaves you with a multitude of forking paths to explore.
