This time on 14tracks:

“14 Tracks: Mid East Recon”

The spectrum of Middle Eastern culture, politics and imagery supplies an invaluable muse to countless artists both from the region and far removed. At one end of the scale, our recon of the region checks for modern Syrian Dabke from Omar Souleyman and Abu Sultan - both subject of recent digital releases on Sublime Frequencies and Sham Palace - beside Lebanese vinyl cut-ups by ex-pat Raed Yassin and petrifying soundtrack work by Raz Mesinai. At the other end, we find a number of artists deeply indebted to Middle Eastern modes of music; courting the miasmic creations of Muslimgauze's 'Salaam Alekum, Bastard' and Vatican Shadow's incredible live session 'Operation Neptune Spear', plus the mystic arabesques of Shackleton and Austin Cesear, whilst following an arid vibe across the polyrhythmic patter of 2562's 'Air Jordan' or Bandshell's 'Dust March' to the impassioned dramas of Bronze Age, Huren and Christoph De Babalon. Just to clarify, this selection isn't a mercenary mission; it's an observation.
