This time on 14tracks:

“14 Tracks: Rocks off”

It would be fair to argue that Industrial Techno, D&B, Post Punk and Garage Rock have a shared purpose, an insistent and economical urgency and attitude which has long made them vital forms of artistic expression. In the space of two releases on his Diagonal label, a London-based producer named Powell has distilled their essence into a form of syncretic, paratechnoid punk and desiccated funk, sourcing inspiration from Suicide to Mika Vainio, Dome and Ed Rush to realise some of the deadliest music around. This selection is headed by his mission statement of sorts, 'Body Music', and refracts a compatible spectrum taking in the "blown-out-proto-biker-blues" of Lantern, a mutant disco edit of Alan Vega's calling card 'Jukebox Babe', through archival Irish post punk and full pelt psychobilly from Nice Face, beside stripped down and clenched Techno swagger from NHK, Perc and David Vunk, and Industrial variants by Thought Broadcast, In Aeternam Vale and Kim Rapatti.
