This time on 14tracks:

“A sweet and sticky day in LA”

This selection of LA-based music was prompted by FAY's solo debut 'DIN', which, just like that city's Julia Holter and her 'Tragedy' LP, has seemingly slapped us up out of nowhere with a sound quite unlike anything else we've heard this year. From the opening Avant-R&B quirks of the former Pit Er Pat member Faye Davis-Jeffers' 'That's The Part', we cover Holter's intricate recomposition of Ana Caravelle and the tight Latin percussions of FAY and M.I.A.'s drummer of choice, Butchy Fuego, before diving into the GLK & Gonja Sufi's Ethiopiques cut-up and a stoned rhythm ace from Duppy Gun Productions aka Sun Araw's Cameron Stallones and Ged Gengras. Meanwhile H.I.T.'s Nguzunguzu and part-time L.A. resident James Ferraro reflect odder Bass futurism and the surreally corporeal, next to Latinized Electro tucks from GB and vintage art-pop from Carole Coompas. Freeform experiments in ritualist Industrial and cosmic electronics come from Tearist, a.d.l.r. and DAK, respectively, and there's a tiny dose of dream-pop magic from Lee Noble's awesome 'Horrorism' LP. Perhaps it's the city's relative and splendid isolation, perhaps its the unique gene-pool, or maybe its simply the 365 days of sun; either way these guys are doing something unique and compelling which requires your attention, pronto.
