Dissatisfied or perhaps temporarily bored with digital tools and computers, the artists on this selection express themselves via archaic apparatus, harnessing their free radical unpredictability to cover a finer, more tactile spectrum of timbre, tone and harmonics in a post-House and Techno context. Rather than a return to rockist values in electronic music, it's simply a more intuitive approach to production yielding chaotic results which perhaps ring truer with those seeking more psychedelic, liminal sounds and headspaces. It's all about a hands-on, nudged-and-pushed aesthetic tugging at the frayed corners of your mind, from the nuanced grooves of Heatsick, Bass Clef, and Last Step (Venetian Snares) to the dismantled structures of Mordant Music and Felix Kubin, thru the atmospheric spaces synthesized by Suum Cuique, Vedomir (Vakula) or Onmutu Meckanicks (Arne Weinberg) to the exquisite craft of Pye Corner Audio, Protect-U and Carls Davis (Carl Craig). To be fair, you're hearing this music on a digital format, but that shouldn't preclude your appreciation and enjoyment of machine music's inherent, endearing quirks and foibles.
