This time on 14tracks:

“14 Tracks: Plugged-in Rhizome”

Thanks to the efforts of insatiable diggers and exotic sonic magpies like Finders Keepers, Jazzman and Chocolate Industries, the obscure fringes of early, plugged-in pop, funk, disco, soul and jazz are now available to a wider audience than ever before. These 14 tracks travel the gamut from India to Algeria via Guyana, Germany, Hungary and Japan, tracing a tangle of wires from Tamil film music thru basement soul jams to sci-fi jazz, funk and electro, all sourced from original material dating between the mid '70s and late '80s. Some - like Ilaiyaraaja's opening trio - were made in state-of-the-art studios, while others are pure DIY jobs. But they all share a taste for electrified timbres, synthetic colour and gridded groove, regardless of far-flung provenance. There's exceptionally fruity Tamil film music from Ilaiyaraaja, and an exclusive instrumental edit of Gary Sloan and Clone by Andy Votel beside a massive highlight from the stunning 'Personal Space: 1974-1984' comp courtesy of Starship Commander Woo Woo, plus a bubblin' Guyanese slow jam from Eddie Hooper, Afro-futurisitix from Sun Ra and Zazou Bikaye, and even a Hungarian cover version of a New York disco classic, all fizzing with a wide-eyed electronic charm...
