“14 tracks: PAN”

Under the curation of Family Battle Snake's Bill Kouligas, PAN Records has become one of the most important new imprints for extraordinary outsider and electro-acoustic music of the highest calibre. Each record is adorned with Bill's screen-printed artwork, a fusion of photographic imagery and interweaving geometric designs reflective of the complex and undividual sounds within. To date, they've released 20 records, counting genuinely incredible and important works from modern masters such as Hecker (his Prix Ars Electronica award-winning 'Sun Pandämonium') and Keith Fullerton Whitman (our album of the year in 2010, 'Disingenuity' b/w Disingenuousness') alongside pioneering veterans Trevor Wishart, Evan Parker, and Freider Butzmann, all carving a niche in the experimental/avant-garde realm as a consistently trustworthy node for the most interesting and inexplicable compositions. This 14 tracks selection ranges from boldly exhilarating delights such as KFW's 'Disingenuousness' to the immersive sounds of Japanese Pachinko parlours on Ilios' 'Kenrimono (The Spirit Trapped A Soul)', through band new work by Peter Rehberg and Marcus Schmickler 'Chicago II', to the dynamic, sampledelic diffusions of Joseph Hammer and Frieder Butzmann's engrossingly instinctive improv. For adventurous ears and inquisitive minds not yet exposed to the label or these artists, venture forth into this crop and you'll reap untold rewards.

14 Tracks, you are to be commended for your sense of adventure. Do keep that up. I must say, though, that while the word "visceral" does apply to a number of these tracks, "visceral" doesn't always equate to an enjoyable listening experience.
