“14 tracks: Seefeel and Mark Clifford”

Having formed almost 20 years ago, Seefeel were one of the most interesting and original bands operating at the intersection between guitar-based and electronic music traditions during the late 20th century. Their early material for Too Pure combined layered guitars typical of the Shoegaze movement, augmented by washes of ambient electronic sequences and percussive passages that fast got them the attention of Richard D James (seek out 1994's amazing 'Time To Find Me' remixes by AFX) and then The Warp and Rephlex labels who were to release their landmark albums Succour and Ch-Vox in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Mark Clifford (the band's guitarist, electronic boffin and central figure) further developed his electronic obsessions under the Disjecta and Woodenspoon monikers, forever finding new ways of joining dots between ethereal shoegaze and more obtuse electronic methodologies, most notably with a set of jawdropping productions for the Cocteau Twins on the 'Otherness' EP released in 1995. But following on from those incredibly productive years, Seefeel more or less disappeared completely in 1997 - leaving legions of followers with battered and worn vinyl copies of their scarce and perfectly formed discography to obsess over. Thankfully, and rather unexpectedly, 2010 saw the band re-form, including original members Clifford and Sarah Peacock joined by Shigeru Ishihara and Boredoms drummer E-Da, first appearing at a number of live shows before deploying a limited EP and now a brand new album typified by a more organic sound that still retains those Clifford signatures we fell in love with all those years ago. If you're new to the band, or indeed Clifford's productions - you're in for a treat.

Was lucky enough to see seefeel support Cocteaus at brixton..whilst Quique was/is regarded as classic,I much prefer Succour and the Disjecta stuff..alot darker and heavier(industrial looping circles)..great stuff..would love a redux(a-la quique)of succour....ch-vox very dissappointing
