“14 tracks engaging the Hardcore Continuum”

The Hardcore Continuum is a movement borne out of the early 90's conflation of seemingly disparate underground cultures : Dancehall, Dub, Rave and Acid House. Steered by a burgeoning pirate radio scene and a plethora of anonymous record labels, this melting pot has exerted its influence on developments in new music until the present day, bringing to life Hardcore, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Garage, 2-Step, Grime and Dubstep. Kode 9 and Simon Reynolds have both written much about the Continuum (and you'd be well advised to seek out their texts if you have an interest), and given the announcement this week that Kode 9's record label Hyperdub has been Mercury Music prize shortlisted for the groundbreaking Burial album 'Untrue' we thought it time to pick a selection of more recent tracks emerging from, and influenced by the Continuum...

Take part! Leave a comment!

What do you think of this selection?
Any suggestions?
All comments are warmly welcomed.

“Brilliant!!!”

Well done guys! You came up with an awesome idea, listened to the feedback and acted on it - I'm now going t go back and buy ALL the collections so far recommended because at six quid it's worth it. Well done again!!!

“Special Blends”

Loving this site, a great idea, I will be going through all the selections one afternoon and building up a hefty bill i imagine! One thing, that Special Blends track is just 'Up All Night' by John B with a hip hop beat and the jungle filtered out!

“Huge kudos to Boomkat”

A massive thank you for listening to the feedback and reducing the price. These great collections are now really reasonably priced. Such a brilliant idea. Thank you Boomkat. You continue to raise the bar on how to find new music.

“Re : Appleblim”

Hey Andrew. you might want to check out Peverelist, Martyn and 2562/A Made Up Sound. The scape compilation 'Round Black Ghosts' is also a good starting point for that kind of sound, as is 'Dubstep Allstars 6' on Tempa.

On 24 Jul 11:09 Sam said:

“Great stuff - but 1 minor criticism!”

Love the concept, and now you've come up with a price that is impossible to ignore. Well done. One minor gripe - could you not deliver all 14 tracks in 1 zipped file? That would make the whole experience flawless.

On 25 Jul 12:39 Elia Pace said:

“To Andrew re: Appleblim”

Check out www.residentadvisor.net for a brand new Appleblim podcast! Nice one to Boomkat as well for negotiating the price down to something respectable!

“the price was the weakness but not anymore.”

top marks to Boomkat for listening to concerns about the pricing. No reason not to support 14 tracks now. excellent selection this week too.
