This time on 14tracks:

“14 tracks: Scanning the scene”

Making a return to disco's parallel universe in the years before House domination, we've picked out 14 electronically enhanced grooves, from the obscure and eccentric, to essential edits and epoch defining anthems. The common thread between these tracks is an aptitude for groove and a taste for the more psyched, dub-rubbed and wriggly end of the floor, taking in squelchy '70s strutters like Soundforce's 'Viva La Dolce Vita', proto-house wiggle from Klein & MBO (edited by Greg Wilson) and Morgan Geist aka Storm Queen, crafty edits from Chicken Lips and Pablo Mandelbrot, and boundary blurring, mould setting classics from Arthur Russell and Peter Gordon's Love of Life Orchestra. We've purposefully drawn for those tracks with mental electronic touches like The Midas Touch's 'The Nightlife', Space System's 'Sorrow Show' or Charanjit Singh's groundbreaking 'Raga Megh Malhar', besides trippy avant-disco like Glissandro 70's 'End West', heavy dance pop sounds from Storm Queen and David Gamson, and Nu-Disco from Chicken Lips for good measure. Like any scene, there's enough chaff, but sift through and you'll find absolute nuggets like these....

“Super-fly selection”

Wow, this is an absolutely lush lush selection. Crazy for the money. Shame it wasn't the Warehouse edit of Dirty Talk but still, super great. I didn't know the That Hat track but it's an absolute banger (haven't been paying attention to my DFA reissues!). Thought it sounded like Arthur Russell had, had a hand in there... and lo behold there he is!
