“14 tracks: deep house diving”

The flame of Deep House has burnt steadily ever since Mr Fingers met Robert Owens back in the late 80s. Dance music has changed much since then, but its original features have been assimilated and worshipped by successive generations to this day. As another raft of refugees from techno and bass music seek sustenance beyond their yard, the rooted traditions of Chicago, New York and Detroit provide perennial soul alleviation for those in need of it. This week's selection includes a couple of young'uns from Detroit and London, Kyle Hall and Wbeeza respectively, through to venerated elders Kenny Dixon Jr aka Moodymann with his vintage remix of Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pittman's dazzling recent remix for Internasjonal. In between we visit the narcosexual sublimation of New York's Reade Truth and DJ Qu's 'Nite Ride' shuffler, while succumbing to the heady jazz influences of inspired European producers Juju & Jordash, Morphosis and Moritz Von Oswald. Too much blandbag background music is disguised as Deep House these days, we hope this selection illuminates the authentic, soul-enveloping dance music that we love and cherish.

“Disappointed”

Why oh why have you suddenly shortened the length of your soundclips? Being able to preview whole tracks is what set your site apart from the others. Baring in mind that a lot of this music is now available to download for free anyway, this type of censorship does nothing to help those of us that do want to support artists and labels and also want to listen to more than 2 minutes of a track before buying it. I just don't get it.

“BOO”

why have you shortened the samples??? dammit first my favorite bookstore in town closes then this...i look forward to a new selection every tuesday...sometimes i buy a set. please oh please offer the full samples again!

“NOOOOOOOO!!!”

you'll ruin what was once beautiful by not playing full tracks. as a dj how are you supposed to tell if a tracks any good without the buildup, drop and fade of the tune. and just an overall feel. this isn't bloody beatport thank god...

“WTF Snippets”

Nice Deeep Collection but why are the samples only snippets now?

On 26 May 12:02 Sandford said:

“If it aint broke...”

agree with all comments above, shortened samples started a few weeks ago. wasn't a problem with dub and boogie selections but these tracks need more than 2 mins play. As a regular 14tracker I trust your selection but if I was discovering this site for the first time it'd certainly put me off. The samples finish before the tunes drop!!

“”

What is store turning into, iTunes? I would think the majority of your customers are professional DJs, and speaking as one, we want/need full tracks previews during the selection process. The current samples simply aren't enough. Please notify me if/when this happens and I'll be back then. Thanks

“Hear hear”

Bring back the full tracks.

On 26 May 14:14 LP said:

“Whiners!”

Dont listen to people whining! The length of your snippets is more than enough to be able to tell if you like the song and want it. Love your site!! Thanks for everything!

On 26 May 15:36 Jstez said:

“Yep, stop your crying”

It's probably beyond their control

On 26 May 22:59 Minkyman said:

“14 tracks is broken”

Couldn't agree more strongly with the above comments (well, the negative ones). Listen to the Wbeeza track - only using this as an example, nothing against it - by the end of the snippet it's not even started. How are you supposed to buy it on the basis of that?

“Calm doon”

probably a licensing issue: it's difficult to get clearing to play full tracks, hence the bleeps every 30 seconds.. or is it something else?

On this site and on boomkat

“Full clip !”

I agree with most comments above about the preview lengths, as a DJ you really need to be able to check more than the intro ! Has put me off a bit I'm afraid.

On 29 May 12:36 Rincon said:

“I have to agree”

Since the shortening of the clips (both hear and on the Boomkat website) I have been buying less. A lot of techno/house/ambient/home listening tracks take 3-4 minutes to build up so when you get the first 2 minutes it just sounds like a boring drum machine or pointless noise. A chance to listen to the full track made Boomkat exceptional and now I'm finding myself searching other websits for a better clip. Hopefully normal service can/will resume soon.

On 29 May 21:03 BamBam said:

“Size does matter”

To echo all that have gone before; sort out the clip lengths. I used to come to 14 Tracks and Boomkat for downloads so I could hear them properly before shelling out. Without it, I won't spend as much...

“Can I play them all with one click ?”

totally agree re. full track issue. and am I being stupid or is there no PLAY button.... as in play all 14... not one by one ?

On 07 Jun 23:58 Mort said:

“Jesus...”

People listen to yourselves! it's not even 7 quid to buy the whole lot and you can listen to them all the way through and as long as you want! if you're a fan of deep house and you don't know some of these tunes, they're obviously worth a punt... and if you can't tell whether you like a tune within 2 minutes, then you probably shouldn't be behind a mixer of a weekend... all the 2.0 'DJ's' on here who demand to hear the full 7 min of all 14 tracks - obviously got nothing better to do all day! 14 Tracks - big up yourselves!

On 20 Aug 16:51 david said:

nice selection! I will buy this selection and listen to them full length
