“14 tracks: Skweee!”

In far flung corners of urban Scandinavia a legion of loons are making some of the oddest electronic music around. Lead by Sweden's Flogsta Danshall and the Finnish Harmönia label under the command of veterans like Mesak and Daniel Savio, the scene has developed from humble tongue-in-cheek beginnings to become acknowledged as a genre in itself. Skweee practitioners favour a stripped down and efficient approach, attempting to eeek the maddest sounds from their arsenals of vintage synthesizers, Sid chips and drum machines, while paying a respectful, if somewhat ironic nod to classic 80s electro and 8-bit arcade game soundtracks. The ultra-funked sound of skweee has correlations with the purple sound of Joker and Gemmy or the wonk of Zomby and Rustie but remains a strickly Skando affair with its own set of inherent rules and regulations. Like chewing tobacco, it's not for everyone but once you've got the taste, its just too addictive...

“Damn!”

Awesome selection... stripped down, as i like it! This musical direction should get more attention... It´s so good for hilarious dance partys.

“Very nice!”

Yes, I made some tracks like game over or belly dancing (you can listen them at www.myspace.com/sicknife) quite a long time ago which I think that have some influences on this sound but without even having heard it at all and now a friend linked me to this site and I flip. Very nice surprise :)
